The PlayStation 3 - Price of the Playstation 3
Price of the Playstation 3
Sony Playstation 3 prices will be in the range of Euro 499 and Euro
599 in Europe when the game console is released in November 2006.
George Fornay, the vice president of Europe Sony Computer Entertainment in a
talk on French radios, announced the Sony Playstation 3 price.
Fornay, who is also a President of Sony Computer Entertainment
France, announced that the cost may look steep, but changed to prove that the
new Sony Playstation 3 is not only a gaming console but it is also an entertainment
package,
George Fornay claimed that the new Sony Playstation 3 price was
relatively cheap after considering the features it has such as the new Blu ray
discs which are a high-definition DVD format as reported by the Play France.
The new Sony Playstation 3 price has been the basis of much rumor
over earlier months, with price predictions ranging from USD 399
to USD 700.
At the same time as the Sony Playstation 3 price ranges might
have been declared for Europe, the console still leaves other gamers from other
territories calculating on how much they will need to pay.
An easy currency conversion from US Dollars from Euros indicates
that the new Sony Playstation 3 price would be in range of USD 612 to USD 735.
However, it is not essentially a precise estimate, with prices frequently
changing between the different regions.
Microsoft had proved this with their Microsoft Xbox 360, which
debuted in United States for USD 399 and Europe for €399.
Still if Sony Computer Entertainment followed a same route as
Microsoft, the new Sony Playstation 3 will still be the most costly next generation
gaming console on the video game market by an important margin. What's more,
Nintendo's Wii is estimated to be priced at less than USD 300.
Sony Computer Entertainment has lowered down the cost of the previous
Sony Playstation 2 from USD 20 to USD 129.99, effective straight away. Sony
Computer Entertainment is expecting the price will drop due to the demand
for the game console in lead to the launch of its best console, the Sony
Playstation 3 console, which will be dated for launch in sometime in November
2006.
President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, Kaz
Hirai, stated that Sony Computer Entertainment would stay dedicated to its long-standing
vision for the previous Sony Playstation 2 platforms. As such, it is an obvious
indication that Sony Computer Entertainment is still looking to carry on the
Sony Playstation 2's lifeline well after the new Sony Playstation 3 is released.
The Sony Playstation 2 console sold for USD 299 upon its launch
in October 2000. The first price point is expected to be higher with the approaching
Sony Playstation 3 gaming console and it is very pricey due to the cost of
the integrated Blu-ray drive also known as the next generation DVD format. The
DVD playing capabilities with the Sony Playstation 2 have brought both an advance
to the DVD format and boosted sales of the Sony Playstation 2 itself.
The Sony Playstation 2 is the fastest and largest selling gaming
console in the world, and has sold over 101 million consoles and
over one billion software titles shipped worldwide.
